Ayurveda, traditional Indian medicine, is thought to be the oldest form of health care in the world. The first recorded accounts of it are more than 5,000 years old, recorded in the collected works of Indian scripture known as the Vedas. The vast majority of the population of India is thought to use some form of ayurvedic medicine, either from specially trained
ayurvedic doctors or by using ayurveda home remedies. Ayurveda not only addresses health concerns but prescribes simple, natural home remedies for beauty as well.

Hair
Home remedies have long been popular in India. They're more inexpensive than other forms of health and beauty care, and because they tend to use common ingredients, they rarely cause unpleasant side effects. Plus, they work!

To get rid of dandruff, a mix of castor, mustard and coconut oils are mixed and then massaged into the scalp before bedtime. Hair loss can be counteracted by a massage with almond oil or by rinsing with a tincture of neem leaves. You can also prevent hair loss by eating more leafy greens and sprouts. Graying hair can be cured by simply curtailing the intake of meat, greasy foods, alcohol and caffeine.

Skin
Indian home remedies for skin care are simple and easy to make. A paste made from cumin seeds or turmeric can cure acne, as can drinking a half cup of aloe vera juice. Premature aging, such as wrinkles, can be relieved by applying aloe vera to the skin. You can also use a grated cucumber face pack to get rid of laugh lines. Mixing equal portions of glycerine, rose water and lemon juice is said to make skin soft and smooth. You could also use an aromatic paste made of sandalwood, a squeeze of lime and turmeric.

Weight Loss
If you need help losing weight, you can turn to ayurveda to solve your problem. A morning spoonful of coconut oil each day lowers cholesterol levels and is filled with antioxidants. To get rid of belly fat, heat sour buttermilk and then add horsegram powder. But don't drink it! Rub the mixture onto your belly. It will dissolve your pot belly.

A tastier cure for excess fat is ginger. Slice ginger into thin pieces and then dry. Soak in honey and store in a jar. Eating slices of honeyed ginger is also thought to help reduce weight.
